DIY table

My boyfriend and I have had this piece for quite a while now, and I am in the-very long- process of bringing our home together. None of my furniture matched, and none of it really flows together. It's really hard to do anything with the house when you don't have the financial means for it, so I just decided that I was going to use what I had and make it the way that I want it for little to nothing cost wise.

This is how it started out... Old, and completely outdated. All my furniture was oak- which looks really dingy and outdated to me, so I am now switching to all dark brown furniture

The handles are terrible, and needed to go!

I used the same brown spray paint that I used on the Dresser that I re-did, then for a little extra pizzaz and character, I used spray adhesive and glued on fabric that I had lying around (that I'm going to use for another project) to the raised part on the doors. I topped the fabric off with a generous coat of Modge-Podge, which helped with the frayed edges of the fabric (cause my scissors are REALLY dull).

I went out and got a couple silver knobs for a couple bucks, and then used the same backing that was on the old handles and spray painted those silver. They worked great together, and I'm happy with the extra flair the backing makes.

And here is the end result with the new lamp and everything! I am super stoked on how everything turned out, and have been staring at it a lot for the past couple days. ;)

I love the feeling that all my stuff is finally coming together. It makes me feel like I am taking that leap to a full fledged adult. I don't only have a hodge-podge of hand-me-downs anymore, and am making my environment reflect my life. I am growing up!

Chevron

I am seeing the Chevron pattern everywhere, and I totally dig it!

I like how its not a very over-powering pattern and you are able to mix it up to either tone down or spice up your space.

*This one is my favorite* I love how the chevron rug is put with the floral bench, and the polka dot blanket. Fabulous!

Canopy Bed

In love with the canopy beds right now. Too bad my place is too small for one... It would be just too much in my tiny little bedroom :(

Very Luxurious! Love the green

September!

Yay for September! I LOVE the fall! Got to change out my calendar, so thought I would show you. (I ran out of magnet "E"s so I just ignored the last one... It bothers me a little, but not enough to go out and buy more. I could just shorten it, but it looked funny to me-I thought this looked better)

Miss Fede (My favorite)

A friend of mine brought my attention to this amazing artist, and I am now obsessing over these fabulous chandeliers! What a cool, and unique idea! His name is Adam Wallacavage and you can find his site here

Mixing Patterns

Mixing completely different patterns is a great way to add interest to a room. If done right, it can look amazing! Again, sometimes I think that it can look a little cluttered if there is too much going on, and I get visually overwhelmed, but not in these rooms!

Floral couch, striped chairs, zebra rug- it all goes together very well! I love the color combination in this room

Stripes, dots, florals...
Paisley and stripes. Love this bedspread!

So fresh and clean!

White makes rooms seem fresh, clean, and crisp- All the things that I love! I would love to have a beach cottage and keep it all white, with little punches of random color throughout the house... That would be wonderful!

I feel like all my anxiety, and stress just washes away from me when in an all white room. This is why I think it's ideal in a bedroom. You want all your stress to leave you for the night so that you are able to rest your body and begin again.

Love the different textures in this room! The fur is just the right color to go perfectly with the rest of the room. I love the appeal that the chandelier brings in!

White on hardwood floors is STUNNING

Florals

Floral patterns in a room can actually be really pretty, and soothing if done in a way that isn't over-powering and cluttered. I don't really enjoy walking into a room and seeing ONLY floral patterns, just in variations. I like flowers, but I don't like that cluttered feeling...

Here are some great examples of what I am talking about....

There is still a lot of different pattern here, but they go well together because they are also balanced out by color and furniture

A nice, bold, floral rug is always a good addition to a room!

It's just as nice on the walls as it is on the floor!

Keep in mind that a floral pattern doesn't always have to be pink, red, and girly. I think that this room is perfect! I love the gentleness of the pattern
