Crafty Areas

I have lots of space in my new house, and one thing that I just might be able to do is have my own crafty area. This is something that I have never really had the space for, but its such a pain in the butt to not be motivated to do a craft just because I didn't want to search for the things that I needed.
Right now, all my stuff is jammed into a plastic 3 drawer cabinet, and whatever can't fit was just shoved somewhere random, cause I didn't know what else to do with it. I would love to be able to have everything out, color coordinated, and organized into a space that is exciting to work in. I am becoming more and more crafty as time goes on, and I love spending my time being creative...

Anyways, here are some really great spaces that have me wanting to buy lots of new goodies and make many new projects!

Good Housekeeping shared this great space (pic above and below) that is beautifully organized. I saw that great storage system with the bar and hooks at IKEA for really cheap, and love how they used it to organize brushes and pens and scissors.

Mrs. Priss has an adorably quaint area that is clean and inviting

Lavender and Limes sewing area is dreamy! I love the way it's organized with those magnetic containers (which I saw at IKEA as well)

I like how Family Crafts put all this stuff in boxes and used dowels to organized even further. Makes the yarn and ribbon look very inviting!

Cozy Reading Corners

Man, the weather lately has been insane! All this rain, thunder, and lightening, makes me want to stay warm and cozy in my house, with a blanket, a lamp, and a good book!

We are in the process of moving right now - which by the way, is super fun and easy in a storm! *Can you feel the sarcasm?* But it has definitely made my brain churn and come up with some cool and exciting (for me) things about the new house. A couple of those things are the idea that I just might be able to have a crafty area in my bedroom, as well as a cozy reading corner somewhere in the house- either in my room or in another place. So, what did I simply HAVE to do while I thought about those things?!? Look for inspiration of course! Here are some fabulous spaces...

Love the older look of this space. The hardwood floors and that tufted chair are just to die for! Although, just to make it a bit cozier I would add a rug...

This makes me happy. I would love to have a fun and cheery spot like this somewhere in my house. A place that makes me smile when I see it! I adore the color of that side table!

Boy, oh boy! I would cry if I had a space like this to relax and read in! So dreamy!

A big, oversize chair that I can curl up in any position I want ;) Heaven!

A bench seat under a window is my all time favorite! Even if I'm not reading, I love daydreaming and staring out the window...

I love this space, but I just have to say that I would for sure replace the chair. The space is warming and welcoming- with all those books to choose from- so I would naturally want to be comfortable sitting in my chair rather than stuck in one position on a wire chair... just my opinion...

Again with the bench seat under a window. I love the book storage under the bench!

This say "sophistication" to me. Its very functional, and I love the colors!

Break...

I have been MIA lately, but hopefully next week I can get back to posting daily. My time has been all used up and crazy lately with school and studying for finals, and in the process of all that we are moving! I'm really excited since we are moving to a bigger, better house but the stress of it all among the stress of the holidays is hard to deal with sometimes. Anyways, hang tight and I shall return shortly!

JOY Plaques

*I couldn't think of any other word to describe this- so I called them plaques even though they are made out of cardboard*

I needed some more Christmas decor, and something to keep me busy and entertained, so I decided to cut up a cardboard box (the flaps) into three pieces and make a cute sign.
I had some paper I really like left over, so I covered the pieces in the paper and wrapped them nice and tight

I drew out some swirly letters

And glittered the heck outta them!

I couldn't be more thrilled with how it turned out, and it satisfied everything I needed it to: kept me busy, was free, sparkled, and looked "Christmasy" but not fru-fru traditional green and red (nothing against it).

My owl friend still looks amazing too! And the angel on the right is the "Angel of Sunflowers"- my sister

Sequin Flower Headband

I was inspired by Infarrantly Creative's Sequin Flowers post, so I decided to give it a go for myself- I have a couple sweet little girls in my life who had a birthday, and the other for Hanukah. This was a super simple craft to do, and I was able to watch tv doing it (except for the first one I did- the power was out and I figured out that it was beyond difficult to sew in the dark-WEIRD, huh?) anyways, heres how I did it.

Sewed flat sequins on a piece of felt in a circular pattern

Then folded some sequins and sewed those in two layers making my way to the center of the circle.

*Kind of a cool pic*

To add the finishing touch, I sewed some beads in the middle. Cut the remaining felt off, and tada! You have yourself a shiny cute flower! I then attached mine to a headband for the girls to wear.

I cut another piece of felt to go on the under side of the headband

And used the trusty glue gun to stick it all together!

It turned out adorable and both girls totally loved them!

The pink isn't really my color, but I think I might try one in black or white or something for myself.

PS- My hair color looks super cute in this pic! Its all natural, but the color normally looks darker to me

Christmas tree ideas

I know that a lot of people have their set of ornaments, and they tend to not stray away from that, but I love the idea of having a themed tree. I understand that if you don't make the ornaments yourself, it can get really pricey having to buy new ones- but you might just be able to find things around your house or at the dollar store, and make your tree something new and exciting this year!
Here are a couple great suggestions from Martha Stewart

Frosting your tree. Instead of having the plain green tree this year, get some fake snow or even flour and sprinkle it over your tree for a freshly snowed look

I just love this tree. Its completely the opposite of your traditional tree, but it sparkles and shines! What a great thing to have in the background of your holiday party!

Sea inspired tree. My moms boyfriend paints scenes on sand dollars and they would look amazing on a sea inspired tree!

How easy, and cute- a cotton ball tree! I'm sure you could just string them with a needle and thread, and they look adorable on the tree!

Got a little one around? Making ornaments out of paper is a safe way to decorate the tree if your worried about your kids getting hurt or breaking other ornaments. Even for those curious pets...

Origami tree. This could be time consuming, but I'm sure the end result would be amazing!

Color Crush: Turquoise

Since a lot of my posts lately have been about Holiday decor, I thought I would take a break from that and do a normal non-holiday related post (even though the reason this came about is cause of my holiday colors- turquoise included hehehe).

Been loving this color lately (actually, always- not just lately). I just find it so refreshing, and clean feeling. It makes me happy!
